- “ engaging tale of a group of self-reliant teens who are ready to take a stand on an issue they believe in” The Muskokan

Rowan has to stay with her cousins for six months. She is dismayed to discover she is marooned on the West Coast of Vancouver Island in the middle of nowhere, with a family she doesn't understand She decides to take up a project to help pass the time.

When she discovers a group of rare sea otters have colonized the kelp beds around an adjacent island, Rowan vows to protect them. This involves confronting and dealing with real estate and development plans, the owner, TV journalists, potential buyers and wildlife biologists. The resulting plot gives fascinating glimpses of sea otters and an entertaining look at a young teen's struggle to belong.

Andrea wrote this story after falling in love with some sea otters in Vancouver Aquarium, and realizing that these rare animals once lived up and down Canada's West Coast.
